The company Viveros de Vigo, S.A., was set up in 1985 by the founding partners Antonio Pires Carneiro, Argentino Pires Iglesias and María Iglesias Sineiro, as an extension to Mr. Pires's busines buying and sealling seafood.

In 1988, following the demolition of its original premises the salt pavillons, the firm move to pavillon 23 in Sales and Packing 2.

Beginning in 1994 the company strongly consolidated its business, with an increase its turnover making it possible for the firm to acquire its own modern means of transport, specially equiped for live shellfish, and so begin to make direct purchases abroad.

The first of these foreign purchases were made with clients in northern Portugal and in the Lisbon area further south.

The client portfolio was further enhanced with "hipermarkets" and "food companies" from Galicia (in north-western Spain) and other parts of the country.

In 2000 the company moved once again, this time to a new warehouse an 875-square-metre official concession, equiped with 13 nurseries for different types of live shellfish, 2 special nurseries with a cooling system, two freezer rooms, a cold store, a modern boiling room and a preparation room, as well as storage areas and office space.

The company is currently addresing the challenge of opening up new markets both in Spain and abroad, having consolidatad and extended its portfolio of clients in Spain and central and southern Portugal.
